We’re delighted to announce two new open calls for artists based in the Black Country as part of our Blast Creative Network development programme: Assembly 2024, a group exhibition held in partnership with The New Art Gallery Walsall, and a special screening event with Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema that will showcase short experimental film by local filmmakers.
Assembly 2024
The New Art Gallery Walsall and Multistory are delighted to partner on the next iteration of Assembly, an annual exhibition programme of newly commissioned work by emerging artists based in the Black Country. Over 6 months, 3 artists selected through open call will be supported curatorially and mentored by The New Art Gallery Walsall and Multistory teams, and have access to development opportunities and social networks through the respective TNAGW and BCN programmes. The programme will culminate in a group exhibition, to be exhibited in the Community Gallery at The New Art Gallery Walsall between August and November 2024, and be supported by a public programme of events. Exhibiting artists that are selected will be offered a fee of £1500 and will have access to a production budget to support the final presentation of their work. The deadline for applications is midnight, Thursday 22 February 2024. More info here.
Shorts Film Screening
Calling all artists and filmmakers based in the Black Country! Submissions are now open for a special screening event of mixed-media, experimental and artist film by local filmmakers, taking place in late March 2024. Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema and BCN are collaborating on a short experimental film night at Newhampton Arts Centre, that showcases local talent. This is a chance for local filmmakers to screen their short films and network with other artists and filmmakers in the Black Country film community. Send us your short films to be selected for the screening – details on how to apply via the button below. The deadline for submissions is midnight, Wednesday 21 February 2024. More info here.
