No Diggity: We Feed The UK Exhibition

Saturday 18 May - Sunday 19 May 2024

Winterley Lane Allotments

Join us for the launch of our upcoming exhibition No Diggity: We Feed The UK.

Taking place on Winterley Lane Allotments from Saturday 18th May – Sunday 19th May, the exhibition displays photographs captured by Ayesha Jones for the We Feed The UK campaign.

We Feed The UK is a storytelling campaign from The Gaia Foundation. It pairs photographers and poets with the UK’s best custodians of soil, sea and seed and celebrates regenerative farmers, urban growers, sustainable fishers and grain rebels: the quiet revolutionaries with grassroots solutions to climate, biodiversity and social crises. These are the positive stories that can sprout real change.

We Feed The UK worked in collaboration with Multistory to commission Midlands-based photographer, Ayesha Jones, who has documented the wonderful work of Neville Portas – the founder of No Diggity gardens located on Winterley Lane Allotments in Walsall. Through his no-dig approach, Neville is nourishing soil across multiple plots on the allotment, as well as reconnecting urban communities to the healing potential of the ground beneath their feet. This has been eloquently captured through the poem Again, Again by Bohdan Piasecki (a member of Hot Poets who was also partnered with Winterley Lane for the campaign).

The exhibition launch on Saturday 18th May coincides with Winterley Lane Allotments’ open day. From 11am-2pm, the event includes an opportunity to view the exhibition and experience live poetry from Bohdan Piasecki . The day will feature craft stalls, a plant sale and a raffle delivered by the fantastic allotment community.

The exhibition will continue to be open on Sunday 19th May (11am-2pm). Although the Open Day and activities are only for the 18th, Sunday will be an opportunity to view the exhibition in a quieter environment so please feel free to come along on this day too!
