We’re excited to present our new poetry anthology Tipton Tales, curated by poet Emma Purshouse for her @multistory commission. . The anthology is tied together by Emma Purshouse’s poem ‘Figure of Eight’, which she wrote while walking through Tipton, mapping various encounters and sights she experienced along the way. It includes poems by Casey Bailey, Liz Berry, Roz Goddard, Brendan Hawthorn, Kuli Kohli, Roy McFarlane, Dave Pitt, Steve Pottinger and Billy Spakemon. Each of the poets featured have deep-rooted connections to and a respect and love of the region of #Sandwell, and their voices interweave with Emma’s to form a warm and sometimes humorous portrayal of the everyday lives of its inhabitants. . . The book launch will take place on 29 November at 7pm at Tipton Library. Join us to get your copy of the book, to meet the poets and to see some of the poems performed for the very first time. . . Tipton Tales

STORIES

As a starting point, I took a wander around Tipton and made notes about the things I saw and heard. Walking, for me, is an important part of the creative process. Poems form themselves as I walk. From my notes I produced Tipton: Figure of Eight, a poem that takes the reader, an imagined […]

Who says women don’t like football

NEWS : July 11, 2018

On the night of England’s semi-finals, we’re delighted to join the football fever and share with you Emma Purshouse’s first poem from Tipton Tales, her new commission with Multistory. “I’m delighted to be working for Multistory on this project.  I’ve just written my first poem for ‘Tipton Tales’.  It’s fairly topical.   I wrote it based on notes […]

#WorldPoetryDay – we’ll be working with performance poet #EmmaPurshouse on a commission for 18/19 called #TiptonTales Emma will work with local residents to produce a site-specific piece of spoken word theatre with a loose but coherent narrative that will be set and performed in a building / location in #Tipton (one of the six towns in the borough of Sandwell). The history of the building and the people and families who inhabited or frequented the place will be represented as spoken word pieces linked together to represent the diversity of voices in #Sandwell – they will be created by both Emma and artists she collaborates with. Collaboration is one of Emma’s preferred methods of working and she has previously written and performed pieces in this way, including a show which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018. . . . . #spokenword #performancepoet #MultistoryArtist #participation #collaboration #community #connected #communitystories #TheMultistoryCollection #6townsofSandwell
