Wednesbury Through the Lens

Partnering with photography collective Tekkin Pix, this socially engaged project encouraged local amateur photographers to capture Wednesbury through the form of a photography competition.
From October 2021-January 2022, Multistory set an open competition for amateur photographs from Sandwell to capture their favourite, landscapes, landmarks, buildings and places of interest, with a specific connection to the history of the town. Collaborating with Tekkin Pix, the entries were displayed as an exhibition at the town’s Museum and Art Gallery, with prizes awarded to the top three and their photographs featured on Tekkin Pix’s social media. Below you can see the winning photographs, selected by the judging panel consisting of Emma Checuti (Director of Multistory), Councillor Mushtaq Hussain (then Sandwell’s Mayor), Denise Maxwell (Photographer), and Tom Hicks/Tegen Kimbley (Tekkin Pix).
Alongside the competition, free workshops took place in November/December led by Denise Maxwell, Marta Kochaneck and Tom Hicks (the latter in the form of a photo walk in the town) which provided tips and knowledge to participants from experienced and established photographers.
