Platinum Jubilee

In May 2022, Multistory celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with the people of Wednesbury.

Dressing the town’s Union Street in red, white and blue bunting, hand-made by members of local community groups, the street event celebrated not only the Jubilee, but the coming together of people in the town.

There were a variety of activities to get involved with including face painting, the chance to meet a very accurate Queen impersonator, have a laugh with The Lollipop Ladies, and balloon artistry. We were also joined by some excellent Dhol Drummers who led a procession to the Vintage Tea Room at the bottom of Union Street, where the event was based. At the Tea Room, there was an opportunity for people to meet and chat with the local knitting group and learn more from the Fire Service, Police, and Mobile Library who were parked nearby.

The day saw the coming together of Wednesbury locals in a wonderful street party setting. The Mayor and ‘The Queen’ handed out special community awards to outstanding individuals who have contributed so much to the community; and colourful Queen portraits created by local schools were proudly on display.
