Naush Sabah is a writer and editor based in the West Midlands. She recently completed an MA in Creative Writing, with Distinction, and now works as a freelance writer and editor. Her short play, Coins, was staged at The Rep and longlisted for the Pint Sized Plays competition (2019). Heredity/ASTYNOME, a double micro-pamphlet box set, was published by Legitimate Snack earlier this summer. She is a trustee at Poetry London, Assistant Editor at Short Fiction Journal, and Co-founder and Editor at Pallina Press.
For Stories in Isolation, Multistory commissioned Naush Sabah to write new poems for her sequence ‘Fundament/Forty’, which is a sequence of poems which use Imam Nawawi’s Forty Hadith—a famous text from the Islamic canon—as source material. The poems explore the sense of isolation from family or community that can ensue from dissent or doubt in one’s faith tradition and respond to the source texts through engaging with different a wide range of poetic forms and experiments and through thematic engagement with aloneness, isolation, disruption, altered spaces/places, loss and grief. ‘Fundament/Forty’ will be published in 2022 as an illustrated pamphlet.
