People, Place & Sport Online Exhibition

Jaskirt Boora

People, Place and Sport is a celebration of local communities and sport in the West Midlands. Artist Jaskirt Boora explores the role of gender and ethnicity in sport, through a series of portraits and recorded conversations. The work also shines a light on the sporting hubs tucked away in our landscape, away from the large stadia, where grassroots sport takes place on a weekly basis.

This online exhibition brings together the 20 portraits of the sportspeople Jaskirt photographed and interviewed at their local sporting venues. Listen to their interviews below; Mav chats to Jaskirt at the Women’s Boxing Club in Digbeth, and Natalie speaks about wild swimming at the Doshthill Quarry.

The exhibition is also currently available to view at eight community sites across Birmingham and Sandwell, alongside a large-scale outdoor exhibition at Sandwell Valley Park. For more information visit here.

Presented by the Birmingham 2022 Festival, People, Place and Sport is generously funded by Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
