Neighbourhood Ecologies

Neighbourhood Ecologies invites new perspectives on the Black Country landscape, acknowledging our post-industrial roots, whilst carving out a future shaped by collective care and stewardship of our natural and urban spaces. By turning our attention toward unloved or overlooked land, the act of "noticing" becomes our foundation for more ecological ways of living and a commitment to defending green spaces that are accessible to all.

Using Sandwell and the wider Black Country as a living backdrop, the programme explores how we can build environmentally resilient communities amidst the climate crisis. We define stewardship as an act of reclaiming a stake in our neighbourhoods, ensuring that local people - especially young people - have the agency to shape the streets and spaces they call home. It is an invitation to explore how the global climate picture relates to our everyday lives, translating deep local knowledge into positive, transformative action.

The programme brings together artists, ecologists, and residents to address social and environmental justice through the lens of creativity. By making art and greening our streets, we create a community where both people and nature can thrive. Together, we are reclaiming overlooked spaces and shaping a future that looks after our neighbours and the land we share. Through this responsibility, we ensure that our natural and urban environments are not just preserved, but are built to last for generations to come.
