We’re excited to share with you an image from photographer @niallmcdiarmid from his series of #Sandwell portraits commissioned by #Multistory for Blast! Festival.
The work will be exhibited next year as part of the #BlastPhotoFest2019 shown across the 6 #Sandwell towns.

. “I’ve really enjoyed getting started on my Multistory project and have been travelling across the region regularly over the past month. The basis of the series is to build a portrait of the six towns across Sandwell, photographing the people I meet in my own style. The area is ethnically very diverse so I’m enjoying meeting people from a huge variety of backgrounds. However at the same time not only is it physically in the centre of the country but it seems to be right at the heart of the contemporary England, mirroring many of the changes and challenges that are so regularly discussed.

High points so far – the great market at Blackheath, jumping on buses out of Oldham, walking the canals around Tipton, a great coffee morning at West Smethwick Baptist Church on the way to visiting Marshall Street where Malcom X visited in 1965. I even met people who were living on the street when he visited. Lastly I love the John Taylor Duce building in Wednesbury. I’d like to find out more about that. Very intriguing building.
Low points so far – the seats on the tram..so uncomfortable. I’m starting a one man campaign for cushions to be supplied!” Niall, July 2018
