is a master of #flipbooks'. Since 2003 he has walked 3,500km across Germany, creating flipbook portraits of the people he meets along the way. Today, he starts his project with Multistory, walking the streets of the six towns of Sandwell for six days to meet the wonderful people who live here. After creating his flipbooks, Volker gives intimate performances and tells of his encounters with the people who are in the books who have shared their stories with him. “When walking, I take photo portraits of people I meet. These people usually don’t know that I am not going to take just one picture but will shoot a whole analogue film in just twelve seconds. When performing, I leaf through the flip books under a video camera that projects the pictures onto a large screen. Flipbooks become flipbook cinema.” Volker Gerling . . . . .
