Volunteers learning oral history interviewing techniques, February 2012

Over the last few months the Black Country Stories team has been working with a group of volunteers who’ve been trained to undertake some oral history recordings. Most of the group had never done anything like this before but have enjoyed the challenge and have been surprised at how much they’ve learnt. Comments from the group include: “I am far more confident about interviewing and can now go into more depth with my interviewees. I’ve gone from drying up after a few basic questions to keeping an interview going for around 40 minutes!” Some of the volunteers’ work will be available on this website and in the current exhibition at the New Art Gallery Walsall.

If anyone is interested in joining a second volunteer programme in the Wolverhampton area, please contact us.
